PEARL — Several local players made quite an impression at the MPSA All-Star games Saturday afternoon at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
Wilkinson County Christian standouts Lane Alan McCarty and Brandon Simon were key members of the South team in the Class A game while Trinity’s Brian Sanderson and Matthew Freeman and Adams County Christiain’s Luke Brumfield played well for the South in the Class AA-AAA game.
Brumfield was named the Most Valuable Player of the South team, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run in the South’s 12-8 victory.
Brumfield also made some key defensive plays to help his team post the victory.
While Brumfield was named MVP, the Trinity duo of Freeman and Sanderson also played well.
Freeman was 1-for-2 at the plate and also pitched two innings, allowing one run and striking out three.
Sanderson walked in both of his at-bats but pitched the final inning and was credited with a save.
“It was fun watching them out there,” ACCS baseball coach Hunter McKeivier said. “All three guys played really well. The city of Natchez can be proud. They did a great job representing us.”
While the three Natchez-area players performed well in the AA-AAA game, a pair of Woodville athletes proved their worth in the Class A game.
WCCA’s Simon caught six innings in the game, which ended in a 6-6 tie after 10 innings.
Simon was 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple and an RBI.
Rams second baseman McCarty also played well, going 1-for-4 in the batters box.
In addition to the two Rams players, WCCA head coach Ray Olive served as head coach for the Class A South All-Star Team.
