NATCHEZ — Over the course of the weekend, 81 tickets were issued by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Roadblocks were set up on county roads as a part of the Click It or Ticket Campaign.

There were only two driving under the influence arrests, one switched tag, three incidents of reckless driving, 45 seat belt violations, five incidents of driving under suspension, nine driver’s without licenses, 10 counts of no proof of insurance, one report of aggravated assault, two four wheelers on public roads, one report of possession of cocaine and two incidents of an expired or no license plate.

Sheriff Ronny Brown said this was an unusually high amount of tickets to be written.

“That’s more tickets ever written by the sheriff’s department since I’ve been there,” Brown said of a roadblock effort.

He said this year’s total nearly doubles totals yielded from past weekend roadblocks.

“The public is not paying attention that you have to wear a seat belt,” he said. “People are not getting the message.”

Brown said this is in accordance with a statewide effort that if a driver is not wearing their seat belt, they absolutely will get a ticket.

The campaign will continue through June 6, Brown said.

“We’ll probably do more roadblocks,” he said. “We’ve had too many fatalities on county roads.”
