MEADVILLE — Franklin County Head Baseball coach Jeremy Loy has resigned after two seasons at the helm; assistant coach Brent Calcote has been named Diamond Dogs new head coach.

Loy, a Natchez native went 42-15 in two seasons with the Diamond Dogs, guiding them to a 24-7 record and to the third round of the 3A state playoffs before falling to state champion Sumrall in a best of three series.

“This season was fun and we had a good one,” Loy said. “I feel I leave the program in a good situation. I know Brent will do a good job.”

Calcote is the son of Franklin County native and current Gulf Coast Athletic Director Chris Calcote. He is a 2003 Southern Miss graduate and a 1998 Stone County High School alumnus.

“I’m excited about the opportunity,” said Calcote about taking over the Diamond Dogs program. “It’s a good sitation. We had a good season this year and hopefully that will carry over as we try to reach the next level.”

The Diamond Dogs made it past the first round of the 3A playoffs this season for the first time since 1998. FCHS will lose five seniors off that team.

“We’re going to lose some good ones, but we’ve got some guys coming up,” Calcote. “They’ve just got to step it up.” said

Brad Mullins, a former Franklin County All-State baseball standout will stay on as assistant baseball coach, while former Bulldog Vance Windom joins the staff as a assistant and junior high head coach. Windom, the 2002 All-Area Player of the Year, coached at South Pike last year.

“This is a great opportunity to come back and coach at Franklin High,” Windom said. “I look forward to working with the kids and serving on coach Calcote’s staff.”
