Man receives life in grandmother’s 22-year-old murder

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) _ A man convicted in the death of his grandmother 22 years ago has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Judge Thomas Gardner sentenced Keir D. Sanders on Friday after a jury found him guilty of murdering his grandmother, Elma Crawford, in her Tishomingo County home.

The jury found Sanders not guilty by reason of insanity in the death of his grandfather, W.D. Crawford. The jury also said he has not been restored to reason and remains a threat to society.

Sanders was arrested in San Antonio in 2005 after 20 years on the run. A trial in February ended when the jury couldn’t reach a verdict.
