NATCHEZ — The man accused of hoarding seven pounds of marijuana, 11 ounces of crack and powder cocaine and other drugs in his house is now in custody of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Dewayne Smith, 32, 106 Brookfield Drive, was arrested Tuesday on eight charges, including drug and weapon offenses.

Deputies and Metro Narcotics agents reportedly seized on Friday up to $80,000 of drugs, weighing and packaging materials, an assault rifle, two counterfeit $20 bills and other possible stolen property at Smith’s house.

Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Smith was the target of an undercover investigation.

Smith was charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance — crack cocaine with intent to distribute, two counts of sale of a schedule I controlled substance — marijuana, possession of a schedule I controlled substance — marijuana, sale of a schedule III controlled substance — hydrocodone and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance — Xanax and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Mayfield said Smith was convicted in 2000 for drug charges.

Receiving stolen property charges are also pending against Smith, Mayfield said Friday.

Smith remained at the Adams County jail without bond Wednesday.
