VIDALIA —The man at the center of a 9-hour police standoff, who was later discovered missing, has now been arrested.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:30 a.m.

Elizabeth, Bright, 49, reportedly called 911 screaming from a house at 227 Concordia Park Drive.

When a deputy arrived, he attempted to enter the house, but was immediately fired upon by Bright, a Louisiana State Police press release said.

Jimmy Williams, 90, the man for whom authorities are now searching, was also armed and inside the house, the deputy said.

The deputy fired back at Bright, reportedly hitting her in the chest.

The deputy then retreated to await backup. The Special Response Team arrived and instructed Bright to discard her weapon, which she did.

SRT entered the house and removed Bright. She was transported to Riverland Medical Center and later transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center.

She was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

Charges are pending against Bright.

The area was cordoned off throughout the night and into the morning since the exact location of Williams was not known, the press release says.

By 11 a.m., authorities re-entered the house, but Williams was not there.

Williams’ family was on the scene and is being cooperative in the investigation.

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office responded to the scene at the request of the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate the incident.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
