Some might think loud rock and roll music and quiet libraries do not go together.

Children join the band High Strung to kick off the library summer reading program by making a little rock and roll music of their own. Click here for slideshowFor more pictures go to www.natchezscene.com. Click here for Natchez Scene

But if you asked the children who came to the Natchez City auditorium Tuesday afternoon to kick off the George Armstrong Library summer reading program, they would say “Why not?”

High Strung, a band that has gained the national spotlight for taking their loud, boisterous music to libraries across the nation, made a stop in Natchez to tell students why the library and reading is important and fun.

It didn’t take long for that message to come across Tuesday. After the first few strums of the electric guitar and the first couple of beats on the drum set, the children were waving their arms and dancing to the music.

To top it off, the band and the children created thier own piece of music Tuesday afternoon, using lyrics created from some of their favorite library books.
