Jonesville man killed in Saturday morning car wreck

Early Saturday morning, Louisiana State Police responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on La. 131 south of Vidalia.
The crash involved a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Frederick D. Barne, 28, of Jonesville. The Pontiac was south bound on highway when Barnes lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the Pontiac collided with a culvert and began overturning.
Barnes was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Concordia Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
The only passenger in the vehicle, Lindsay N. Myers, 21, of Jonesville, La, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Natchez Community Hospital.
Neither driver nor passenger was wearing their seatbelt.
Routine toxicology tests are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
Lousiana State Troop E troopers have investigated 30 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 34 fatalities. Four of the 30 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Four fatal crashes have involved an ATV and two have involved a motorcycle. Fifteen of the 20 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash. Five fatal victims were restrained.
