ST. JOSEPH — Mary Althea Nunez Murphy, 89, of St. Joseph, entered into heaven’s gates peacefully, surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Maryland Baptist Church in St. Joseph with the Rev. Daylon Hicks and the Rev. Ray Holland officiating.
Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 3, 1921, the daughter of Emile “Zack” Nunez and Celina Serigne Nunez. She was a member of Maryland Baptist Church.
Mrs. Murphy was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Murphy; one great-grandson, Joseph Simpson; her parents; nine sisters, Olivia Nunez and husband, Louis, Katie Luscy and husband, Joseph, Agnes Nunez and husband, Leon, Carmelita Ruiz and husband, Robert, Jennie Robin and husband, Sebastian, Eva Campo and husband, Martin, Selina McDonald and husband, James, Myrtle Asevado and husband, Bernard, and Camelia Asevado and husband, Walter; four brothers, Emile Nunez and wife, Camilla, Wallace Nunez, Leo Nunez and wife, Beulah and Paul Nunez; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Survivors include one daughter, Amanda Mize and husband, Winfred, of St. Joseph; one granddaughter, Karen Mize Moseley and husband, Trey, of Braxton; four grandsons, Eric Mize of Alameda, Calif., Danny Mize and wife, Angela, of Paducah, Ky., Jason Mize and wife, Amy, of Madison and Davy Mize of St. Joseph; and seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Hannah, Alyssa, Danny Jr., Jackson, Samuel and Parker.
An angel to all those who loved her on earth, rejoice that she is now truly an angel in heaven.
Pallbearers will be Winfred Mize, Eric Mize, Jason Mize and Davy Mize.
Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Campo, Arnold Asevado, Trey Moseley and Danny Mize Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may made to Tensas Academy Football Program.
