NATCHEZ — When Brittany Thompson went to Bowie’s Tavern Thursday night, she never though she would end the night with a gun pointed at her chest.

After arriving at Bowie’s, Thompson and Tori Loomis parked near the corner of Main and Canal streets and were approached by two men who asked them for a cigarette lighter.

“(Then) they asked for a push-in lighter so I assume they wanted to get in the car,” Thompson said.

They stayed at Bowie’s for about 20 minutes. When they returned to their car one of the men jumped out from behind the car next to them and pointed a pistol at Thompson’s chest.

“I thought I was going to die,” she said. “I didn’t know whether to run or do what he said.”

Loomis chose to run and yelled for her friend to follow. The robber then grabbed Thompson by the sleeve.

Thompson cried, “Please don’t shoot me. I have a daughter,” before turning and running back into the bar.

“The whole time that’s all I said to him,” Thompson said. “I was in shock. The whole time I was like ‘this is not happening.’”

Thompson and Loomis called police once the got back into the bar.

“They did the right thing,” Sgt. Craig Godbold said. “They ran back inside the bar into a crowd of people and called the police.”

However, when the officers arrived the suspects were gone.

The men were described as around 6 foot 3 inches tall, 180 pounds and in their mid to late 20s. One was wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts while the other wore a red T-shirt and cap.

Looking back on the situation, Thompson said she doesn’t think the men would have killed her.

“Now that I think about everything, I don’t think he really had any intention of shooting anybody,” she said. “I think he just thought he could scare us, being two girls, with that gun.”

She said she does not plan on going out to the bars for a while, but when she does she will try to be safer.

“When I do decide to go out again, I’m going to have the police escort me to my car,” she said.

Police are building a photo lineup in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.
