RUSTON — The first exhibition featuring book arts by Louisiana Tech art students created this summer is on display through July 31 at Lincoln Parish Library in Ruston.

This was the first time book arts, which are the messages and techniques of how to make forms, has been taught at Tech, said Adrienne Hooker, assistant professor of art. Book arts includes works like covers, binding and printmaking.

“It’s a new art form for this area, and I really wanted to expose the community to this type artwork,” she said. “It’s not a painting or drawing that’s hung on a wall and framed. It often has a sequence or narrative to its form.”

The art works were created by the following students in Hooker’s ART 471 course: Kim Ashy, of Pineville; Christian Bubenzer, of Bunkie; Jacob Cotton, of Walker; Whitney Jordan, of Bossier City; Megan Krestensen, of Calhoun; Karren Lovelady, of Columbia; Daniel Luther, of Pineville, La.; Nick Norwood, of West Monroe, La.,; Alison Ritchey, of Lafayette, La.; Rushing; and Ted Smith, of McComb.

The students’ exhibits were their final projects in the hands-on class.

Lincoln Parish Library, located at 910 N. Trenton St., is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
