Three killed in four-vehicle pileup

BATON ROUGE (AP) — A father, mother and daughter from Vancleave, Mississippi, died in a four-vehicle pileup along a congested stretch of Interstate 12 east of Baton Rouge. State police say two people also were injured in the crash Tuesday.

Troopers say a 55-year-old Ruth A. Fort of Baton Rouge will be booked with three counts of negligent homicide and other charges once she is released from the hospital.

The dead have been identified as 36-year-old Phillip Vanalstine, his 34-year-old wife, Shyla and their 7-year-old daughter, Haylie.

The crash happened at the site of road surface improvements under way on a bumpy section of I-12 near the Amite River in East Baton Rouge Parish.
