NATCHEZ — Entergy workers found themselves working a bit harder than most weekends Sunday, after an early morning thunderstorm swept through the state leaving many residents in the dark.

Outages began in Natchez around 1:30 a.m., ranging from downtown Natchez to Oak Street and the Melrose and Roselawn areas. Areas in the county affected, leaving approximately 2,000 Miss-Lou residents without power.

Woodville, Centreville and Fayette also faced the blackouts.

Local Entergy resources were expanded fairly quickly said Stephen Caruthers, Entergy customer service manager.

“After a typical storm we may pull resources from Jackson or north Mississippi,” said Cauthers, “but since this storm was so wide spread, those locations had work to do in their own areas.”

With outages as far north as Greenville and as far south as Brookhaven, Entergy pulled crews from the Hattiesburg area and even Hammond, La., to help in Natchez while Greenville got help from the Arkansas workforce.

City workers also found themselves working odd hours, starting at 4 a.m. with downed tree limbs that took out lines near the intersection Oak and Union streets which caused outages from Oak Street to Linton Street, said Public Works Director Eric Smith.
