UNION — Services for Gladys Moss White, 96, of Union, who died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at her residence, were 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, with the Rev. Jon David Martin officiating.
Burial followed at Union City Cemetery under the direction of Stephens Funeral Home of Union.
Mrs. White was born Jan. 14, 1915, one of eight children of John Vernon and Ada Catledge Sargent. She worked for a number of years at the Ackerman and Union Shirt Factories. She also drove a school bus and was a seamstress.
Mrs. White loved her church and was a member of Concord Baptist Church and Ackerman Baptist Church in Ackerman and First Baptist Church in Union. She enjoyed WMU, working in vacation Bible school and attending senior adult activities and trips. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Matron in the Union chapter.
In later years her favorite pastime was listening to Moody Radio, America Family Radio and recording tapes to give to family and friends. Her greatest desire was that people knew her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husbands, Felix Samuel Moss and J.P. White; her parents; three brothers, John Vernon Sargent Jr., Grady Sargent and George Sargent; and two sisters, Glennie Sargent and Geneva Sargent Dacus.
Survivors include her four children, Kenneth Moss and wife, Cathy, of Natchez, Felicia Smith and husband, Bud, of Decatur, Joe Moss and wife, Judy, of Clinton and Coreen VanDevender and husband, Bob, of Union; three stepchildren, Charlotte Jordan and husband, Jerry, of Walnut Grove, Kenneth White and wife, Bobbie, and Andy White and wife, Debra, all of Little Rock; 17 grandchildren, Julie Darling and husband, Ed, Walter Moss, John Moss and wife, Heather, Derick Smith and wife, Shannon, Kyle Smith and wife, Misti, Jeremy Smith, Kelly Ginn and husband, Jon, Jennifer Lazarus and husband, Darren, Tara Scheyer and husband, Kevin, Karen Goodwin and husband, Michael, Jeana VanDevender, Cindy Peoples and husband, Danny, Bud Jordan, Vicky White, David White and wife, Diana, Julie Luke and Lori Cosgrove and husband, Brad; 25 great-grandchildren, Scott Darling and wife, McKaye, Chris Darling and wife, Shelly, Grant Darling, Wyatt and Mason Moss, Parker and Ella Grayce Smith, Samuel, Kailyn and Gabriel Smith, Rachel, Caleb and Jacob Ginn, Lauren and Shawn Lazarus, Felix and Nopa Scheyer, Carrie Warren and husband, Blake, Kim, Chris and Mitchell Jordan, Adriane Luke, Kaleigh, Caleb and Sydnee Cosgrove; two great-great-grandchildren, McKenzie Welsher and Elizabeth Aniston Darling; one sister, Geraldine Sargent Roberts Baker; one brother, Gerald Sargent and wife, Minnie Lou, of Grenada; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Sargent Hurt of Louisville.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Walter and John Moss, Derick, Kyle and Jeremy Smith, and Michael Goodwin.
Honorary pallbearers were Jon Ginn, Darren Lazarus, Danny Peoples, Bud Jordan, David White and Brad Cosgrove.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Union or Baptist Children’s Village.
