NATCHEZ — Cavin Cain Madden of Natchez recently received notice he will receive a $1,000 Coca-Cola two-year college scholarship from the Coca Cola Scholars Foundation.
“Your selection was based on your academic record and your ongoing commitment to community service,” said J. Mark Davis, president of the Coca Cola Scholars Foundation in a letter to Madden. “Our hope is that the qualities that enabled you to receive this award will remain with you throughout your academic career and as you take your place in the profession you have chosen.”
Teresa Harrison, vice president for the Natchez campus, said Madden was an important part of the campus.
“As impressive as Cain’s (grade point average) is, so is his commitment to Co-Lin and to his community. He is always searching for ways to help give back to the college and to our community. He is most deserving of this scholarship.”
Madden is an honor student and recently was inducted into the Co-Lin Natchez Hall of Fame. He is currently enrolled in his third year at Co-Lin Natchez and is majoring in journalism and media. He recently was elected president of the campus Student Government Association.
A Woodville native, Madden is news manager of the campus newspaper “N-Sights,” is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, SHARE (Student Hospitality and Recruitment) and the President’s Council.
He was chosen as a Mississippi Phi Theta Kappa/All-USA Team member and was selected for inclusion in “Who’s Who among Students in American Junior Colleges.”
