FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man wanted for attempted rape was arrested on two bench warrants by the Ferriday Police Department Thursday.
Cornelius Robertson, 21, 9171 U.S. 84, was charged with attempted aggravated rape and simple battery.
FPD officer Clarence Hall said the two charges were from unrelated incidents, and the department had separate bench warrants for each charge.
On Thursday, Hall said he pulled over a green 2002 Chevrolet Yukon on Louisiana 15 that was registered to a Jonesville area woman.
Hall said he then asked Robertson for his information, and proceeded to arrest him on the two bench warrants after verifying it was, in fact, Robertson.
Hall said the attempted aggravated rape charge stems from an incident Robertson had with a female late last week.
Robertson got into a vehicle with the female and Hall said the two proceeded to drive around.
Hall said Robertson eventually drove his car to an isolated area where he attempted to have sex with the female.
The female did not consent to the sex, and Hall said she managed to escape Robertson and report him to the police.
Hall said the simple battery charge was from a separate incident with Robertson’s ex-girlfriend.
Robertson and his former girlfriend got into an altercation in July, and Hall said Robertson struck the female in the face during the altercation.
“He basically slapped her,” he said. “We got a report on this after it happened and got a bench warrant for Robertson.”
Robertson was taken into custody by the FPD after his arrest Thursday, and was transferred to the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office shortly after that.
Robertson was released from the sheriff’s office after paying his $3,000 bond.
