Centreville squeaks past Brookhaven Academy

BROOKHAVEN — The Tigers began their defense of the MPSA Class AA state championship with a less-than-stellar performance as they defeated the Cougars Friday night.
Kyle Brown scored on a 1-yard run and added the extra point to give Centreville a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. However, Brookhaven Academy tied the game with 7:53 to go in the third quarter on a 32-yard pass from Chandler Rogers to Kyle Burt and the extra point by Savalett.
Centreville, ranked No. 1 in Class AA, took the lead with 2:30 to go in the third quarter on a 50-yard run by Adam Perry and the defense made the lead stand in the fourth quarter.
Brown completed 9-of-19 passes for 123 yards and Zack Sinclair led the Tigers’ ground game with 16 carries for 92 yards. Beau Field caught two passes for 57 yards. Perry had three carries for 54 yards and two catches for 31 yards.
Centreville (1-0) hosts Parklane Friday night at 7 p.m.
