NATCHEZ — With mounting frustration and a 19-0 deficit facing them, the Ferriday High School Trojans got into a small altercation with the Natchez High Bulldogs and caused the first ever Miss-Lou Classic to end about an hour early.

The Miss-Lou Classic was comprised of three controlled scrimmages with each team allowed 50 plays on each side of the ball.

Natchez scored first on a 29-yard touchdown run by William Newman that put the Bulldogs up 7-0.

After Natchez’s first 20 plays, Ferriday started their set of 20 but penalties and incomplete passes prevented the Trojans from reaching the end zone.

In Natchez’s second possession, the Bulldogs scored on a 54-yard pass from Javon Washington to Melvin Davis and then scored on a 5-yard touchdown run by Joey Bruce.

The Trojans started off on the wrong foot during their second possession with an incomplete pass, two runs for negative yardage, and an interception thrown by Rodney Lawson.

After the interception things became heated between the two teams and Ferriday head coach Freddie Harrison called off the game.

“We were in the heat of the battle,” Harrison said. “That kind of stuff happens and we just had to stop there. I was proud of our effort, but we have to fine tune a lot of things.”

“Our overall effort was good,” Natchez head coach Lance Reed said. “Our offense stumbled in a few spots but our tackling was better.”

Natchez High running back Jeremy Davis led all runners with 40 yards on two carries.

Bulldog quarterback Javon Washington was the leading passer with an 8-for-13 effort which included 98 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Natchez travels to Jefferson County High School next week for a non-district game.

Ferriday will host a jamboree next Friday.

Cathedral 18, Point Coupee Central 12

In the first game of the Miss-Lou Classic, the Cathedral Green Wave snuck by the Point Coupee Cougars and came out knowing what to work on.

“We got very tired at the end,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “We have to get in shape soon.”

Cathedral’s three scores came on a 20-yard touchdown run by Jeb White, a 14-yard touchdown run by Preston Edwards, and a 4-yard touchdown run by JaDarius Ealey.

The Green Wave will begin the regular season next week hosting Dexter in a Region 4-1A game.

Block 32, Wilkinson County 12

The Block High School Bears faced the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats in the second game of the Miss-Lou Classic, and showed they are ready to play.

“I got to see our new kids play tonight,” Block head coach Benny Vault said. “I was impressed with them. We came out aggressive and the kids did what we asked.”

Block will face Tensas Parish next Friday in the Vidalia Jamboree.
