VIDALIA — With Ferriday dropping out of the annual Vidalia Jamboree, the Vikings had to face a different opponent this year, but things didn’t go their way.

Vidalia took on Delhi Charter School in the second game of the jamboree and got off to a rough start after a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Stuart Scurria put the Gators up 6-0.

The Vikings, led by running back Kevin Johnson, marched down the field and scored on a 14-yard touchdown run by Johnson with 1:03 left to go in the first half.

Tri McCoy ran up the middle for the two-point conversion and Vidalia took an 8-6 lead.

The Gators didn’t back down though, and a 58-yard run by Randy Julian put Delhi in scoring position.

Three plays later Scurria threw a 3-yard pass to Jeremy Foote to give the Gators a 12-8 lead at the half.

The second half was relatively quiet with neither team scoring. The game ended with Delhi edging by the Vikings 12-8.

“We weren’t ready to play,” Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth said. “I saw some good things on defense but we have to block better. We will get back to the drawing board.”

Johnson led the Viking rushing attack with 72 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Caleb Vines completed his only attempt for 15 yards.

The Vikings travel to Block next Friday

Block 22, Tensas Parish 0

The Block Bears continued their preseason action with a dominating performance over the Tensas Parish Panthers in the first game of the Vidalia Jamboree.

Block was lead by running back Hunter Key who scored two touchdowns for the Bears.

“Hunter understands the purpose of our offense and is an offensive leader for us,” Block head coach Benny Vault said. “We still have a lot of work to do on offense and our mental approach.”

Block will host Vidalia next Friday.
