Let’s assume we are all ready! We will be raising money for the following charities, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Warrior Weekend, Disabled American Gold Star Mothers, Vietnam Veterans of America, American Indian College Fund, The Red Cloud Humanitarian Fund and National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Pretty cool huh!

OK, here we go! We will leave Key West, Fla., and ride to Homer, Alaska — 7,000-plus miles.

Did we lose anybody yet? We will conquer 62 mountain ranges, 33 Indian reservations, 25 national forests, eight deserts, six National Parks and four swamps.

Did we lose anymore? No interstates, only back roads; and we can not exceed the speed limit.

By the way, we are not taking motor homes, no campers, no vans or big SUVs, no big cars or trucks. We will be riding motorcycles!

Now how many do we have left? A few you say?

One more thing, if we stop to sleep a few hours, we have to sleep with our motorcycle. Now how many?

I know of one, Oscar Seyfarth. Oscar is a resident of Natchez, a Vietnam veteran and an Air Force retiree.

When asked why he is making this ride, his answer was “to honor fellow veterans, both past and present.”

Oscar and 999 other motorcyclists from all over the world have accepted this challenge, which must be completed in 14 days.

So, how can we help? A 4-person golf scramble will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at Duncan Park.

Put your own team together for $60 per player, which includes golf, mulligans, a catfish plate and a chance at prizes.

Additional catfish plates and T-shirts will be available at The Steel Horse Saloon, on Highland Boulevard, starting at noon.

You can have Oscar carry an American flag on the trip for $50 and he will present these flags to you upon his return, or you can adopt-a-mile. For each $2 donated, a mile of his journey can be completed.
