PORT GIBSON — The Jefferson County Tigers bounced back nicely from an opening defeat against Natchez High by disposing of Port Gibson 30-6 Saturday night.
The game was originally supposed to be played Friday night but was pushed back a day in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first when quarterback Jeffrey Collins scored on a 4-yard scamper.
Port Gibson briefly tied the game at six when Joshua White recovered a fumble in the end zone late in the first quarter but it was all Jefferson County after that.
The Tigers took the lead for good when Collins found Myron Young open for a 46-yard scoring strike and found him again on the two-point conversion play.
Jefferson County extended its lead with just four seconds left before halftime when Collins once again threw a touchdown pass to Young, this one from 9 yards out.
Collins passed to Trellvion Gaines for the two-pointer after that score.
The final score of the night came in the waning seconds of the third quarter when Calvin Lewis scored on a 2-yard run. Lewis then ran in the two-point conversion for the final scoring margin.
The Tigers racked up 400 yards of total offense with running back Jason Davis leading the way with 157 yards on just seven carries.
Collins had 71 rushing yards on three carries and also threw for 155 yards.
Davian Noble led the Tiger defense with two interceptions.
Jefferson County will play at Crystal Springs on Friday.
