NATCHEZ — After a fight at McDonald’s Tuesday night, Anthony Wilson wound up bent over in the front seat of his car with bullets flying at him.

Wilson, who was allegedly fired on by Roderick Brady, 18, 601 Old Washington Road, said that Brady, Kiara Brown and two other men tried to jump his younger cousin because they blamed him for another drive-by shooting in August. The group thought Wilson’s cousin was alone at McDonald’s, but a larger group came out and “beat up” Brady, Brown and the two other, Wilson said.

After arriving home from McDonald’s at around 9:30 p.m. Wilson saw a green Mercury Marquis, reportedly driven by Brown, 19, 89 Duck Pond Road.

“I don’t know if they were waiting or if they were just riding (around),” Wilson said. “When they saw me, the guy in the back held up a gun and we were face to face. They could have shot when we were face to face, but he waited until I got past and then went to shooting.”

Wilson said that eight shots were fired but only three hit the car — a Chevy HHR that he was renting. One of the bullets hit the driver’s side door.

“I don’t know how it missed my leg but it didn’t (hit me),” he said. “I heard it when it hit the door and it sounded like it shattered some glass, but it broke the panel of the door.

Despite having bullets flying at his car, Wilson said he was not worried.

“I wasn’t scared, I wasn’t shocked because I saw the gun,” he said. “The first thing on my mind was to jump out and shoot back. But when I heard the bullets hit the car I just laid low until it stopped, and then I followed them.”

Wilson followed Brown to Holiday Apartments and identified his car when police arrived. Police then seized a 9 mm handgun from Wilson.

Although the shooting occurred in the county, Natchez Police arrested Brown.

“When the police got there they found Kiara’s vehicle in the back of the complex,” Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said. “Then he walked out and they patted him down and found marijuana.”

Brown was charged with possession of marijuana, but was transferred to the sheriff’s office for the more serious charge.

Brady was arrested Wednesday afternoon and ACSO Deputy Major Jody Waldrop said they think he is the one that fired the weapon.

“We feel like we’ve got the shooter in custody,” he said.

The sheriff’s office also believes that the dispute stems from an August drive-by shooting, of which Brown and Brady were victims, Waldrop said.

Warrants have been issued for the other two passengers, who will also be charged with a drive-by shooting.

Despite the ordeal and the two other passengers being on the street, Wilson was still not worried and did not lose any sleep.

“All I had to pay was the $250 deductible on that car,” Wilson said. “Other than that I’m all right.”
