While the national news continues to spin around us, life is still full of plenty of good headlines in the Miss-Lou.

Let’s review some of the week’s good news.

Crowds gathered once again at the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians for the annual Bark in the Park. The event is one of the largest fundraisers for the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society.

Local pet lovers bring their dogs — dressed to the nines — to the park for a day of contests and treats. Pets are awarded in categories including most handsome and most talented. And all the while, owners donate money that will be used to fuel the day-to-day operations at the county’s animal shelter.

We are lucky to have Humane Society volunteers who organize such fun events, and the Humane Society is fortunate to have a giving community willing to help out.

While Grand Village may have been full of loud barking Saturday, Historic Jefferson College across town was home to more peaceful sounds.

The annual Copper Magnolia Festival kicked off Saturday morning, featuring music, arts, crafts and a plant sale.

The event gives local artists a chance to show their wares on the gorgeous grounds of the historic college.

Events such as Bark in the Park and the Copper Magnolia Festival will continue throughout the busy fall in the Miss-Lou. On the horizon are the Cathedral Fall Festival, Art & Soul and the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race, among others.

With so much going on, it’s bound to be a fun time for all.
