WCCA Rams must keep winning

WOODVILLE — Faced with a must-win situation, the Wilkinson County Christian Rams did just that last week in a 22-6 victory over Franklin Academy.
Now, they have to get back up and do it all over again.
The Rams will take on Tallulah Academy Friday night in a pivotal District 6-A matchup.
“We had a big win (last Friday), but the next game will be even tougher,” WCCA coach Sam Byrd IV said. “Tallulah has a good, young group of kids. They never quit and will play you tough for four quarters.”
WCCA comes into the game with a 2-3 record, and 1-3 record in district play. The Rams have district losses to Huntington, Glenbrook and Claiborne while defeating Franklin Academy.
WCCA had a huge win last Friday, led by the effort of Todd Gonda. Gonda, normally a receiver, was pressed into action at quarterback due to the season-ending knee injury of starting quarterback George Davis.
Gonda ran for a 62-yard touchdown on an option play and also intercepted a pass and returned it 74 yards for another TD. He also kicked a 22-yard field goal for the first points of the game.
“Todd is one of our weapons,” Byrd said. “He’s got good moves and made some good reads on option plays, and was able to take one of them to the house with a god cutback. He also made some nice throws.”
Byrd knows it will take a great effort to beat Tallulah.
“Tallulah is sitting second or third in the district,” Byrd said. “We’ve got to go up there and knock them off. It will be a tough chore. We’ve got to run hard and play hard.”
