FERRIDAY — After a big 51-8 District 6-A victory over CENLA Christian Academy, the Huntington Hounds look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Winnsboro, La., to play Franklin Academy.

The Hounds (3-2, 2-0 Region 6-A) began the season with a 1-2 record thanks to a tough opening schedule, which included losses to Central Private and Trinity Episcopal.

However, Huntington has won its last two games by an average of 36.5 points.

“Overall, I thought the kids came out and took care of the task at hand,” Huntington coach Chad Harkins said of the win over CENLA. “It was another district win and we need to keep progressing to our ultimate goal of the playoffs.”

Huntington is led by the rushing attack of Jeremy Randall and Kevin Brown, who were the main reasons the Hounds rushed for 481 yards in last week’s victory.

Randall scored six touchdowns, including on runs of 48, 61, 41 and 81 yards.

While Randall and Brown get the yards and touchdowns, Harkins said it is the improved play of the offensive line that is the key.

“Our offensive line keeps getting better as a unit,” Harkins said. “We were able to execute being in the right play and doing things right on the offensive line.”

Franklin Academy, on the other hand, is coming off a 22-6 loss to Wilkinson County Christian, in which they allowed 266 rushing yards while gaining just 56 of their own.

The Cougars are 1-3 on the season with their only win being a 14-7 triumph over CENLA.

They have losses to Greenville Christian (18-0), Tallulah Academy (29-0) and WCCA.

Harkins said he just wants to see improvement from his team each week as the Hounds make a push for the state playoffs.

“If we were as good as we could be right now, it would be tough because we’d have nothing to maintain in the playoffs,” Harkins said. “We need to keep getting better every week so we can hit our stride in the playoffs and hopefully stay alive in there a little while.”
