VIDALIA — The Vidalia 18-and-under All-Stars wrapped up the Southwest Regional tournament Monday, finishing 2-2 overall in the tournament.
After an opening-day 3-0 win against the Arkansas All-Stars Friday night, Vidalia lost to eventual champion Texas-West All-Stars 10-0 Saturday. Vidalia won their re-match against Arkansas 7-2 Sunday, but was eliminated by host Quitman All-Stars Monday 5-4.
Vidalia head coach Glen Perilloux said he was proud of the way his girls played throughout the tournament.
“The group was a pleasure to coach, and I also want to thank my assistants, Robert Buie and Mark Fortenbery,” Perilloux said. “They did a great job.”
“We attended the regional (tournament) last year, and it was a learning experience for us. We didn’t quite know what to expect, but this year we were much better prepared just because of that experience.”
Pitcher Laura Perilloux got the win in Sunday’s game against Arkansas, pitching four innings and giving up one run on two hits and striking out two. Mary Sanders got the save, going three innings and yielding one run on three hits.
Kennedy Beard went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday’s game. Beth Fortenbery had a double, Tee Harbor went 3-for-4 with a triple and Payton Monticello was 2-for-4. Laura Perilloux was 2-for-4.
In Monday’s game with Quitman, Vidalia trailed for most of the game but tied it 4-4 in the top of the seventh. Quitman got the walkoff win, however, scoring a run in the bottom half of the frame with two outs.
