NATCHEZ — Caleb Daugherty was one of eight seniors on Adams County Christian School’s varsity boys’ soccer team that was honored at Bobby Marks Stadium before the Rebels’ home- and regular-season finale last Tuesday afternoon against Parklane Academy.
Daugherty also shined for ACCS during its important MAIS Division II South game against Parklane as he scored two goals in helping the Rebels defeat the Pioneers 5-1 to claim the division championship and the No. 1 seed out of Division II South for the postseason.
In addition to Daugherty, Aiden Roche’, Bram Sullivan, Brandon Bram, Christian Neveykin, Cole Neal, and twins Jacob and Joseph Ellis were recognized on Senior Night.
When the whistle blew to start the game, the Rebels knew the importance of this game and led 2-0 at halftime. Then went on two three more goals while holding Parklane to just one goal in the second half.
“We started out fast in the sense of how we wanted to play. We did a good job creating chances. We attacked well as a unit and capitalized on our chances,” Rebels head coach Cristofer Thompson said. “Parklane played a good game, but we eliminated their attacking drives. We capitalized on ours.”
Daugherty was not the only player to score multiple goals for ACCS. So did Jamichael Owens, who had two goals of his own. Drake Hale added a goal for the Rebels and freshman goalkeeper Bryce LaPrairire had seven saves.
Thompson said he was really pleased with the performances of both Daugherty and Owens.
“Those two, they worked together really well. They found each other multiple times. They played lights out that night,” Thompson said. “They did a good job finding each other and finding their teammates.”
With the win, the Rebels finished the regular season at 5-10 overall and 5-1 in Division II South. They finished first ahead of Oak Forest Academy and will host the Division II Central No. 2 seed on Thursday, Feb. 6 at a time to be determined in the first round of the MAIS Division II Boys’ Soccer Playoffs.
As to which team, ACCS will play in Round 1, Thompson said, “Their division is so wide open. We’ll have more clarity (this) Thursday night. There’s a high chance it will be either Copiah Academy or Brookhaven Academy.”
