NATCHEZ –Jimmie Nell Whetstone, 88, of Natchez, passed peacefully on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at Natchez City Cemetery with Bro. Russell Wagoner officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whetstone was born on Jan. 1, 1937, in Natchez, the daughter of Hoyte Byrd and Ellen Smith Byrd.

She worked for South Central Bell which later became AT&T for 33 years as chief operator at the switchboard.

She was a member of Natchez Church of God.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Nancy Reagan; grandsons, Trenton Simmons and Gene Reagan; and sister, Ann Norris.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Whetstone; daughter, Lee Ann Simmons and husband, Trenton; brother, Richard Byrd and wife, Betty Byrd; one grandchild, Charmain Smith and husband, Chad; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Trenton Simmons, Michael Seal, Michael Davis, John Seyfarth, Dawn Seal, and Pam Goldman.
