Mayor, aldermen face extensive agenda Tuesday

NATCHEZ — The Natchez Mayor and Board of Aldermen face an extensive agenda for its second meeting of the month on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The board meets at the Council Chambers, 115 S. Pearl St., across from City Hall.

James Johnston, the city’s community development director, will seek approval for several items from the aldermen, including approval of a grant from I Care for Animal Health, as well as approval of:

• Bid package number 5 for the 2022 Convention Center Complex General Obligation Bond.

• Bid package number 3 for the Natchez City Auditorium 2022 Convent Center Complex General Obligation Bond.

• Bids for millwork at the Duncan Park Golf Clubhouse, also part of the 2022 Capital Improvements General Obligation Bond.

Justin Dollar, the city’s public works director, will seek permission to make surplus and auction a city vehicle. The vehicle is an inmate transport van, a 2012 E 350 passenger van with 457,308 miles.

City Inspector Jody Rutter will seek approval to replace a 5 ton HVAC unit at the Natchez Police Department’s evidence room and offices.

Ryan Porter, parks and recreation director, will ask aldermen to approve contracting with Waycaster-Duncan to provide engineering services for the 2024 Recreational Trails Program in Duncan Park. The move is also subject to approval of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Porter also plans to host a Tree Mississippi Open House to inform the public about Planning and Planting a Resilient Natchez program. The open house is Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon at Visit Natchez in the Depot on the Bluff.

Porter will also update aldermen on spring baseball registration, which is open for players, coaches and sponsors to sign up at natchezyouthsports.com. In-person registration is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sports Center Natchez.

Natchez Police Chief Caroline Green will seek approval for contracting with an investigative technology company.

The meeting will include reports offered by each alderman, as well as approval for paying the city’s bills and approving minutes of previous meetings.

Mayor Dan Gibson is expected to make special presentations to retirees Lovie Martin and Willis B Jones.
