FERRIDAY – Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Ferriday, for Carey H. Cook, 79, of Ferriday, who passed away on Jan. 17, 2025, at his residence. Pastor Leroy White will officiate at the services.

Interment will follow in the National Cemetery, in Natchez, under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Carey H. Cook was born on Nov. 17, 1945, the son of Rev. Henderson B., Sr. and Beatrice Johnson Cook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Henrietta Cook.

Cherishing the memory of Carey include his wife, Jerry Smith Cook, of Ferriday; one son, Kerwin Cook (Khaliah), of Haughton, LA; one daughter, Brigida Cook-Brown (Anthony), of Baton Rouge, LA; five brothers, Henderson Cook (Doretha), and Delnora Cook (Cynthia), both of Ferriday, Robert Cook (Rubbie), of Sicily Island, LA, Proffie Cook (Donna), of Winchester, VA, Melvin Cook (Brenda), of Lake Charles, LA; three sisters, Lucille Coble, of Springfield, MA, Beatrice Williams, and Elizabeth Whitley, both of Ferriday; four grandchildren, Arman Cook Brown, Anzhel Brown, both of Baton Rouge, LA, Kerwin Cook, Jr., of Ruston, LA, Kemani Cook, of Haughton, LA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and Zion Hill Baptist Church family and friends.

Carey was a longtime resident of Ferriday and wore several hats. He was a business owner, a concrete finisher, an Ordain Deacon of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Ferriday, a Chief Financial Officer of Zion Hill Baptist Church member of Crescens Association, an elected official, 1984-2020, Concordia Parish Police Jury, and one of the founding members of the Ferriday High School Athletic Association.

The family would like to give a special acknowledgment to, those who were always by his bedside, Henderson Cook, Jr. (Doretha), Komonicca Collins, and special thanks to Angie Harris (Neal), Robert Freeman, Jacqueline Whitley, Elaine Watson, Rafael Cook, all of Ferriday; Chaplin Watts; nurses, doctors and staff of Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for all of their kindness, care, and compassion.
