NATCHEZ — All roads in Natchez and Adams County remain open, except for the flyover coming from U.S. 61 North onto Seargent S. Prentiss Drive, which was closed Monday evening by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
However, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten warns residents to stay off the roadways unless in a dire emergency.
Patten reported that his department has received numerous calls about patches of black ice, particularly in downtown Natchez. Four wrecks were reported within five minutes of each other.
Emergency Management Agency Director Robert Bradford said all bridges are open and that bridges are being salted and sanded.
The Vidalia, Louisiana, Police Department confirmed the Mississippi River Bridges remain open, but Chief Joey Merrill asked motorists to use extreme caution when crossing. He said today’s temperatures are not expected to rise significantly above freezing and tonight’s temperatures will drop into the mid-to-upper teens, creating hazardous driving conditions.
All officials ask the motorist say off the roads.
