VIDALIA, La. — Town of Vidalia administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, due to the forecast of potential, sleet, freezing rain, or snow for Concordia Parish. Trash pickup may be delayed but a decision will be made at the time of the event.
In the event of a non-medical or safety emergency, residents may call the Vidalia Police Department at 318-336-5254 or the Vidalia Fire Department at 318-336-5211 or the Concordia Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at 318-336-7151. For all other emergencies, call 911.
Officials advised residents to take the following precautions during the cold temperatures. Minimize time outdoors. Prepare for power outages. Check on the elderly and other vulnerable residents to ensure they’re OK.
Keep pets warm, dry and indoors as much as possible and ensure their food and water do not freeze.
Insulate pipes if possible. Open up sink cabinets to expose pipes to heated air. Allow a light drip from faucets on the outer walls, disconnect hoses and turn the water to sprinklers.
Cover and protect vulnerable plants. Avoid being outside during the coldest part of the day, typically the early morning.
Make sure vehicles have gas during extreme cold to keep warm in case the weather causes you to become stranded.
Dress for the outdoors even if you don’t think you’ll be out much.
