April 14, 1932 – Jan. 15, 2025

COLLINS, MS – Renette Montgomery Strebeck, 92, passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2025, in Chelsea, AL. She was born on April 14, 1932, in Red Level, AL, to Daniel Bullard Montgomery and Lavada Mason Montgomery.

Renette graduated from Ernest Ward High School in 1949 and attended Clark College in Newton, MS, where she met her future husband, Rev. David E. Strebeck. The couple married on May 2, 1952, and together they graduated from Mississippi College in 1954. Renette earned a Master’s degree in Education and a Specialist in Reading degree, dedicating her life to teaching and inspiring countless students. Many of her former high school students credited their success in college English to her exceptional guidance.

As the wife of a pastor, Renette served alongside her husband at numerous churches across Louisiana and Mississippi. She began her teaching career near New Orleans while David attended seminary and continued teaching as they raised their family and ministered together. Her grandmother once remarked that “David’s a good preacher, but Renette is a better one,” a sentiment that reflected her deep calling and devotion to her faith.

Renette was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Rev. David E. Strebeck; her parents; her brother, Mason Montgomery; and her granddaughter, Summer Renee’ Moffett.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Berrell (Bob) of Chelsea, AL; her son, Stephen Strebeck (Karen) of Natchez; grandchildren, Matthew Berrell, Patrick Berrell, Candy Plata (Moises), Wesley Strebeck (Claire); and great-grandchildren, Mayce, Knox, Kuyper, Harley, Liliana, Louie, Bradley, Enslee, and Jacob.

Funeral services will be held on Jan. 25, 2025, at Salem Baptist Church, 338 Salem Church Rd., Collins, MS.

Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the service at noon, officiated by her grandson, Rev. Wesley H. Strebeck with Rev. Bobby Morton assisting.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060, or Gideons International (Gideons.org).

Renette’s life was a testament to faith and service; she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
