NATCHEZ — Dangerously cold temperatures with the possibility of snow are expected for the Miss-Lou early next week, the National Weather Service predicts.
“An arctic air outbreak will bring the coldest weather of the season into the forecast area as we go into next week,” states the National Weather Service’s Jackson office. “This will be a long duration of dangerously cold temperatures with the coldest air moving in Sunday night and persisting through next Wednesday night, and it is possible that it will extend into late next week. Stay tuned to the latest forecast updates as we approach next week. Winter preparations are recommended now in advance of this dangerous cold.”
Cold temperatures pose a risk to exposed pipes as well as the risk of frostbite or hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
With this comes the possibility of snow, sleet and freezing rain Tuesday through Wednesday along and southeast of the Natchez trace corridor.
High temperatures forecasted are 40 degrees on Sunday, 36 degrees on Monday and 34 on Tuesday with lows in the lower 20s all three nights. Tuesday shows a 40 percent chance of snow showers during the day and a 30 percent chance of snow and freezing rain Tuesday night.
Schools are monitoring the weather for possible closures.
