NATCHEZ – Services for Billie Maxine Brice, 90, of Alexandria who died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, in Alexandria will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at Laird Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Natchez National Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brice was born on April 1, 1934, in Bastrop, LA the daughter of John Blackman and Emma May Takewell.

She completed one year at NLU in business administration and completed her degree at NAEOP – the National Association of Education Personnel. She worked at Louisiana National Bank from 1958 to 1959.  When International Paper Company transferred her husband, Bruce, to the Pine Bluff Paper Mill in 1960, Mrs. Brice was the Acting Director of Pine Bluff Art Museum from 1963 until 1968. In Natchez, she worked at Montebello School from 1969 until 1976. In 1976, her husband was transferred to IP Moss Point, MS. There she was the Education Secretary at First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, MS from 1976 until 1978, was an employee of the Boys Club from 1979 until 1981 as well as employed by Pascagoula Public Beach Elementary. Mrs. Brice was named Educator of the Year for Pascagoula, MS before returning to work at Natchez Public Schools as Administrative Assistant to Director of Special Projects until retirement in 1994. Mr. and Mrs. Brice established RSI Business on Main Street in Natchez as co-owners with their son in 2002, retired from their son’s business in 2012 but still helped out until they relocated to Alexandria, LA to be nearer their daughter.

Mrs. Brice was preceded in death by her mother, Emma May Takewell; stepfather, Bill Fulmer, half-brother, Lynn Fulmer; half-sister, Kathy Fulmer; and son, Bruce Wayne Brice, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Wayne Brice, Sr.; daughter, Sheryl Brice Herring, and husband, Jim Herring; two grandsons, Colin Gregory Bruce, and Brett Nolan Herring (wife Danielle); three great-grandchildren, Ryleigh June Herring, Cody Gunter, and Beau Gunter; and several cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jim Herring, Brett Herring, Colin Brice, Cody Gunter, Richard Brice, and Anthony Rybek.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Hayes, Bill Russell, and Bob Russell.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Natchez Children’s Home Services 33 Fatherland Rd, Natchez or to Hoofbeats and Pawprints Rescue 17341 River Rd, Natchez.
