NATCHEZ — Winter weather is possible for the northern part of Adams County Thursday evening heading into Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The tip of the county has a 20 to 40 percent chance for snow, sleet and freezing rain. The risk increases to 40 to 60 percent north of Vicksburg.

Heavy snow is possible in the northern portion of the region — north of Greenville, Greenwood, Eupora and Columbus. This could lead to hazardous and dangerous travel conditions in some portions and additional impacts on utilities.

The primary threat to Adams County and the surrounding region is dangerous cold, with wind chills around 15 to 20 degrees, mainly at night and during the early morning. In these conditions, hypothermia is possible with prolonged exposure. The potentially dangerous cold will persist through this week, with low temperatures on Friday and Saturday forecasted to drop below freezing and high temperatures in the mid-40s.
