NATCHEZ – Lowery Herrington, of Vidalia, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on March 2, 1939, in Winnsboro, LA, Lowery lived a life dedicated to faith, family, and education.
Lowery was married to his beloved wife, Gloria Ann May Herrington, for 63 years. He was the proud father of two children, Tina Herrington Adams and Tim Herrington, and a devoted grandfather to three grandchildren.
Lowery was one of seven siblings, including four sisters and two brothers, one of whom was his fraternal twin. His strong family bonds were evident throughout his life.
A dedicated scholar and teacher, Lowery earned his undergraduate degree from Northeast Louisiana University and went on to complete a Master of Education degree with an additional 45 hours toward his PhD at Mississippi College. His passion for education led him to serve as a teacher and later as a Supervisor for the Concordia Parish School Board. His commitment to learning left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues.
Lowery also served his country honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was deeply committed to his faith and served as a music minister in his church, sharing his love of music and worship with his community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Juanita Herrington; and his sister, Danon Roberts. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Ann May Herrington of Vidalia; daughter, Tina Herrington Adams of Madison, MS; son, Tim Herrington of Prairieville, LA; grandchildren, McKenzie Adams of Madison, MS, Mallory Adams Parker (Peyton) of Chattanooga, TN, and Mollie Adams of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Georgie Lee Roberson of Delhi, LA, Maggie McGough of West Monroe, LA, Sue Dennis of West Monroe, LA; brothers, Larry Herrington of Simsboro, LA and Rob Herrington (Sandi) of Alma, AR; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members who cherished him dearly.
Pallbearers will be Benny Wayne Roberson, Jeffrey Burgess, Terry Perkins, Richard Lambert, Neil Powers, and Ronnie Runnels. Honorary pallbearers are members of Warren Enterkin’s Sunday School Class and Billy Wilson.
Lowery’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at First Baptist Church Natchez. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by a service at 1 p.m. The service will be led by Dr. Doug Broome, and Rob Herrington, Lowery’s brother, will deliver the message. The burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Lowery Herrington will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
