State officials confirm 22 tornadoes touched down in state Saturday

PEARL – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to work with counties impacted by the severe weather on Saturday, agency officials said in a press release issued Tuesday morning.
“Our staff is working with county EMA directors to complete damage assessments. Every disaster starts local and ends local. State resources have been provided to the counties that have requested assistance. As of this morning, the National Weather Service has confirmed 22 tornadoes touched down on Saturday in Mississippi,” wrote Eric Bullard, MEMA director of external affairs.
The following counties have submitted preliminary damage reports to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. These numbers can change through the assessment process.
Adams – 20 homes, 1 death
Amite – 4 homes, 1 business, 1 farm
Clay – 28 homes
Clarke – 15 homes, 1 business
Franklin – 14 homes, 2 businesses, 1 farm
Harrison – 6 homes
Jackson – 10 homes, 1 business
Leake – 2 homes
Lowndes – 1 home, 1 death
Oktibbeha – 6 homes, 19 apartments, 5 businesses
Perry – 1 home, 1 farm
Scott – 5 homes, 5 farms
Smith – 9 homes, 3 farms
Rankin – 17 homes, 3 apartments, 1 business
Warren – 1 home
Wayne – 33 homes, 1 business, 1 farm
Wilkinson – 2 homes, 1 apartment
Yazoo – 8 homes, 2 farms
Residents and business owners can self-report damage from the severe storms on December 28 to their county and MEMA via MEMA’s self-report tool. If citizens have immediate unmet needs, they are encouraged to contact their county emergency management agency. A list of those county contacts can be found here.
