NATCHEZ — Approximately 2,191 Natchez electricity customers in Adams County were still without power on Monday morning at approximately 10 a.m.

Approximately 1,720 Adams County residents who are customers of Southwest Electric are still without electricity due to severe storms that moved through the area on Saturday, toppling trees and downing power lines.

That’s about 31 percent of Southwest’s customers in Adams County, said Deb McGee, human resources and public relations specialist.

“The Kingston Substation went back online this morning,” she said, which cut the number of people without power in half.

“Customers along U.S. 61 and Highway 84 are still without power,” McGee said.

Fifty-five percent of Southwest Electric’s customers in Franklin County — 1,161 — and 66 percent of Wilkinson County’s customers — 1,809 — were still without power at approximately 10 a.m. Monday.

“We have 56 broken poles and another 20 poles called stripped cross arms that are damaged,” McGee said. “We have assistance from two other sister cooperatives — Northeast Electric in Oxford and Pear River Valley Electric in Columbia. We also have help from four other contractors.

“We will have power restored to all customers as soon as possible. We are working hard on it. The damage was just extensive and widespread,” she said.

In addition, 471 Entergy customers are still without electric power in Adams County.
