NATCHEZ — A Natchez man who posted bond after initially being charged with attempted murder is last month is now back in jail without bond after he was arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Tyrell LeShawn White, 28, less than a month ago was arrested for attempted murder and reportedly assaulted officers outside of the Natchez Walmart on Friday, Dec. 13.

His initial arrest on Nov. 27 in connection with a shooting incident 10 days earlier on Daisy Street came about as part of Operation Safe Neighborhoods, a joint effort between the Natchez Police Department and Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

White had been charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The victim Je’Mario Clay, 23, had been shot three times on Nov. 17 — including once in the forehead — while he was driving on Daisy Street and lived.

Initially, White’s bond was set at $250,000 for the attempted murder charge and $100,000 for shooting into an occupied vehicle by Natchez Municipal Court Judge Christina Daugherty.

Daugherty revoked that bond on Tuesday afternoon as a result of the Friday altercation.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday, White was parked in the fire zone outside of Walmart on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive.

When the officer searched White’s name, the officer found the warrants for the Nov. 17 shooting showing up as active warrants although they had already been served, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said.

Police had asked White to step out of the car, but he instead tried to put the car in gear and flee, Green said.

“Before the officer had a chance to verify whether the warrants were still active or not, this transpired,” she said. “It could have been a painless process for him to wait a minute for verification, but before the officer even had the chance to do that (White) turned violent.”

Nearby Adams County Sheriff’s Office Deputies came to assist the police officer and detain White.

“It’s a good thing that they did,” Green said after the incident, thanking the deputies. She added the officer was “a little banged up but OK.”

White was arrested again on charges of simple assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct.
