FAYETTE – Funeral services for Dr. Powhatan Leflore Fluker, 90, of Fayette, who departed this earthly life on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, in Vicksburg, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Hollywood Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow on Sunday at the Bethel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery in Black Hawk, MS at 9:30 a.m. under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home – Fayette Branch.
An Omega Omega service will be held at the Fayette branch from 5 until 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, and visitation will follow from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Powhatan was born April 25, 1934, in Leflore County, the son of Earsalene Jessie McClain and Powhatan Fluker. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education, and his Doctorate of Education in Vocational and Technical Education. Powhatan was a retired Professor of Agricultural and Mechanical Sciences from Alcorn State University. He was a member of the Hollywood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry, restoring old cars, gardening, and raising animals. Powhatan held several leadership roles, including Former Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Advisor to Alcorn’s Collegiate Chapter of Future Farmers of America, Former President of the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Advisor to Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clotiel Siggal Fluker; brother, Samuel Charles Anderson; and an infant son.
Powhatan leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Carmen Fluker and Terilyn Fluker Johnson; sister, Barbara Coyt; grandson, Powhatan Belton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
