NATCHEZ — A man who less than a month ago was arrested for attempted murder reportedly assaulted officers outside of the Natchez Walmart on Friday night.
Tyrell LeShawn White, 28, known by the street name TieDye, was arrested on Nov. 27 in connection with a shooting incident 10 days earlier on Daisy Street. He had been charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle but has since bonded out of jail, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said.
The victim Je’Mario Clay, 23, had been shot three times on Nov. 17 — including once in the forehead — while he was driving on Daisy Street and lived.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday, White was parked in the fire zone outside of Walmart on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive. Police ran his tag and found warrants in White’s name, Green said.
Police asked White to step out of the car, but he instead tried to put the car in gear and flee, Green said. An altercation between White and officers followed and nearby Adams County Sheriff’s Office Deputies came to assist.
“It’s a good thing that they did,” Green said, thanking the deputies. “We had an officer a little banged up but they’re OK.”
White has been booked on charges of simple assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct without bond, Green said.
