VIDALIA, La. — A Vidalia man who was a Tier 2 Registered Sex Offender reportedly shot and killed himself Thursday as deputies attempted to execute a warrant for the physical and sexual abuse of juveniles.
The man has been identified as James Larry Corley Jr. of Vidalia, who is a Tier 2 Registered Sex Offender with a past conviction for the sexual assault of a juvenile.
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report Thursday in reference to the sexual and physical abuse, and immediately launched an investigation with CPSO’s Special Victims Unit and with the Vidalia Police Department.
Detectives established probable cause during their investigation, which included the assistance of the Alexandria Children’s Advocacy Center.
Arrest warrants for Corley were obtained, but while serving the arrest warrant Corley’s vehicle was located and a traffic stop was attempted. Corley reportedly fled, leading to a vehicle pursuit that ended in Corley’s death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sheriff David Hedrick thanked the Vidalia Police Department, Children’s Advocacy Center and Probation and Parole for their assistance in this case.
