NATCHEZ — Savannah Annette Blackwell and Bruce Moak have lived in their home at 25 Farr Road for more than 20 years.
Thursday morning, when no one was at home except their three Dachshund dogs, the home caught fire and everything was lost.
“Two of my puppies died. They were under my bed,” a clearly emotional Blackwell said. One puppy made it out safely. “We lost everything. We have nothing.”
Friday afternoon, Moak buried the two puppies.
Blackwell and Moak are staying at a local hotel, thanks to the American Red Cross, she said. The surviving puppy is staying with a friend while they come to terms with the tragedy.
Her daughter, Melissa Hagood, has set up a GoFundMe to help them recover from the devastating loss.
Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington said the home had been burning for a while when they arrived on the scene.
“We are unaware of what caused the fire. It burned a significant hole in the front of the house. It is certainly not livable,” he said.
