July 15, 1957 – Dec. 9, 2024
NATCHEZ – Rebecca Strong Davidson, born July 15, 1957, passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. The youngest of seven children, Becky was born in Batesville, MS, and adored by her older siblings. She lived her life with an adventurous and giving spirit across the state of Mississippi, ultimately making Natchez her home in 1989.
In her early years, Becky was a cheerleader at West Panola High School, and she carried this spirit throughout her life. She traveled the state, cheering on children, nieces, nephews, and cousins as they participated in their chosen sport. After spending the preceding week planning the adventure, she would arrive with an arsenal of sport-appropriate cheers, wearing school colors and sports paraphernalia with a themed treat to share with the team after their battle. While Becky graduated from Delta State University, it was her time at Mississippi State that left the greatest impression on her life. Born of the Bulldog Blitz era, Becky was maroon and white to her core. On any given day, you could find Becky, cheering on her Bulldogs; the actual sport was irrelevant. If the Dawgs were on, Becky would be watching.
Becky was a special education teacher across Mississippi (South Panola High School, Independence High School, Naylor School, Ruleville Junior High, and Cathedral School) and later worked with GED students at Copiah Lincoln Community College. Her passion for those in need was evident in the special bonds she formed with her students. This nurturing spirit was felt by anyone who knew her. She was a constant source of shelter and support.
Becky made life beautiful. From floral design to arts and crafts, her talent was boundless. For many years Becky could be found on the weekends working at One of a Kind Gifts downtown where her creativity shined. Alongside her daughters, many friendships and memories were made there. Becky left a trail of something special everywhere she went.
Above all things, Becky was a mother. She fiercely loved, protected, and defended three amazing children and six perfect grandchildren. Through her example, she taught us how to love without prejudice and support without question or hesitation. She taught us how to be a mom and leaves behind a deep legacy of love.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Jo Chism Strong; her siblings, Bud Chism, Tommy Chism, Janet McCann, and Betty Chism; her brother-in-law, Bruce McCann; her sister-in-law, Flora Chism; her nephew, Mark McCann; her niece, Pam Sullivan; and two dear friends, Althea Gay and Ellen Saunders.
She is survived by her former husband and faithful caregiver, James Lee Davidson; her children and their spouses, Jim and Kary Davidson of Southwest Harbor, ME; Sarah and Ryan Walker of Starkville, MS, and Joanna and Anthony Lofton of Natchez; and her grandchildren, Evan Davidson, Riley Lofton, Mary Mack Walker, Ellen Walker, Maggie Lofton, and Annie Lofton. She is also survived by two sisters and their spouses, Irma and Pat Caldwell, Jimmie and Johnny Simpson; her faithful companion, Rudy and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends who loved her dearly.
The family would like to acknowledge Joann, Vanessa, and Shelia with Specialty Hospice for their kindness and compassion; caregiver, Rita O’Neil for her gentle and loving nature, and special neighbor Linda Kemp for her unending kindness and delicious treats.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Natchez Adams County Humane Society.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at Laird Funeral Home with visitation from 1 until 2 p.m. and a Celebration of Life to follow at 211 Hog Farm Road, Churchill, MS.
