FERRIDAY, La. — Louisiana State Troopers are investigating a fatal crash Monday night that killed two Ferriday pedestrians on U.S. Highway 84 near the 84 Quick Stop in Concordia Parish.
Troopers responded at approximately 9 p.m. on Dec. 9. Initial investigation found that Donnie Joel and Carlane Smith, both from Ferriday, were struck while walking in the roadway by an eastbound 2018 Chevrolet Journey and a westbound 2018 Dodge Challenger. They both received fatal injuries and were pronounced dead.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation, according to LSP.
Troop E reminded pedestrians to always make themselves visible to drivers by wearing bright or light-colored clothing and reflective materials.
Pedestrians should always walk on a sidewalk or walk as close to the roadway edge as possible and face traffic if no sidewalk is available. If pedestrians walk at night, they should carry a flashlight for added safety.
