See who seeks to make changes to property in historic district

NATCHEZ — This week, the city’s Preservation Commission will be asked to approve several changes to homes in the city’s historic district.
The commission meets Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. at the Council Chambers, 115 S. Pearl St. The meeting is open to the public.
Among the requests is one from Natalie Schwager, 305 N. Pearl St., who seeks approval for installing a pool in the home’s backyard.
–John Johnson, 211 Linton Avenue, is requesting that a porch and stair railings be installed, as well as that the concrete sidewalk be removed and replaced with brick in a herringbone pattern.
–James Moore of 704 N. Pearl St., would like to alter the front facade of the house, remove two existing sidewalks and replace with one sidewalk, replace the front door and replace a window on the north elevation.
–Sharon West seeks approval to install a sign at 403 Dr. M.L. King North.
–Jim Smith, on behalf of Sarah Freeman, 300 Linton Avenue, would like to lower the brick wall on the Clifton Avenue side of the property to three feet and grade the yard toward the wall 1 to 3 feet.
–In unfinished business, Dick Thompson seeks approval to construct houses on Duncan Avenue with 300 feet of Landmark properties. The issue was presented at the commission’s November meeting but was tabled.
–Also, in unfinished business, Scott Schweiger would like to convert a two-car garage into a studio apartment, and Bill Jones at 100 State St. requests to place a metal digital print flag over existing plywood.
–The city’s planning administration and paint committee will recommend approving a request from James and Olivia Hazlip at 129 S. Commerce St to replace a fence in the backyard with the same materials and color it is currently.
–It will also recommend that Angel Painting be allowed to reroof the building at 310 N. Commerce St. with weathered wood architectural shingles.
–Lastly, it will recommend that John Johnson at 211 Linton Avenue be allowed to repair a concrete wall and steps to the property.
