The Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity needs your help!
As you may know, the Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity has been serving our community for more than 30 years providing affordable housing and a path to homeownership for families in need. Together, we have built not just houses, but a stronger, more connected community.
Yet, today, we are facing a critical moment that threatens our ability to continue this vital work. Due to a shortage of skilled volunteers, our ability to continue our vital work has been severely impacted. If we are unable to recruit more community members to volunteer their time, we may be forced to halt operations entirely. This is a deeply concerning prospect, not only for the families we serve but for the entire community that benefits from the positive impact of Habitat for Humanity’s work.
Over the years, your local Habitat for Humanity organization has built a total of 25 homes for families in need within our community who were once living in substandard conditions, offering them not only a roof over their head, but a sense of security, dignity, and hope for the future.
Our goal is to build at least one home each year, with the construction time varying depending on volunteer time and efforts, but generally lasts approximately 9-10 months.
Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is an opportunity to give back to the community, to work alongside fellow residents, and to see firsthand the impact your efforts have on families who are working hard to build a better life. These days, volunteers are hard to come by, especially those with any level of construction skills. Whether you have construction skills or simply a willingness to learn, there are many ways you can help. From hammering nails and laying foundations to painting walls and clearing debris, your time and talents are invaluable.
We are reaching out to you – our friends, neighbors, and fellow residents – because we believe in the power of community. Regardless if you have experience in construction or simply desire to make a difference, we welcome volunteers of all skill levels. Every hour of your time, no matter how small, will directly contribute to making a meaningful impact in the lives of local families.
The Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity has been blessed with many angels throughout the years, but Andrew Calvit and Duncan McFarlane are at the top of that list. Both dedicated men have volunteered thousands of hours to facilitate and to construct each of the sites that would become a family home for those in need.
Andrew and Duncan worked side-by-side three days a week for the last 20-plus years, from the land acquisition stage to the dedication ceremony for the new homeowners. As you may be aware, Duncan has recently retired from the Habitat Board and will be moving to North Carolina, leaving Andrew as the only skilled volunteer at the job site. While we are excited for Duncan and his new adventures, we would be excited to have more volunteers with such skill and dedication and can certainly distribute the many construction tasks to those who step forward.
Our mission is simple: We seek to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope; but we cannot do this alone. We need volunteers who are willing to lend their hands and hearts to this noble cause. We are asking for your support – whether through hands-on volunteer work, financial contributions, or simply helping to spread the word about our need for volunteers.
Please consider volunteering with us or encourage others in your circle to get involved. Together we can ensure that the Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity continues to be a beacon of hope for those who need it most.
We are eager to hear from you and to work together to make a meaningful difference.
