HAZELHURST, MS – The family of John Aubrey McGee, Jr., announces his passing on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. A Celebration of Life for John Aubrey McGee, Jr., 90, of Natchez will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, 1002 Pleasant Valley Road, Hazlehurst, MS 39083, with the burial to follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery immediately. Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

John Aubrey McGee, Jr., was born on Nov. 30, 1934, in Copiah County, MS, the son of John Aubrey McGee Sr., and Carrie DeCell McGee.

After graduating from Fortier High School in New Orleans, LA, John attended Loyola University also in New Orleans. While there, he became a proud member of the Naval ROTC. Upon graduation, John entered the Loyola School of Dentistry. In dental school, John met and married Davie Lou Marcantel. After his dental school graduation, John went on to serve in active duty with the United States Navy at Camp Pendleton, CA.

In 1960, John and Lou made Natchez their home. John practiced dentistry for 38 years and was a member of the Mississippi District VI Dental Society, the Mississippi Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He was also active in the Natchez community as a past member of The Rotary Club of Natchez and the Natchez Jaycees. He served on the board of Belwood Country Club, and Beau Pre Country Club and was a founding member of The Natchez Racquetball Club. John was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He especially loved his family and the gatherings at the McGee family home place in Copiah County, affectionately, referred to as “The Country.”

John is preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Carrie McGee, and one sister, Mary McGee Boyington.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Davie Lou McGee; his children, Carrie McGee Iles, Tara McGee Walker (Jeff), and John Aubrey McGee III (Chelle); and six grandchildren, Haley Walker, Madeline Iles, Carrie Walker, Mark Iles, Olivia McGee and John Aubrey McGee IV.

Survivors also include John’s two sisters, Lucille Barraza and Shirley Mozingo; as well as his much-loved nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jay McGee, Jeff Walker, Donald Barraza, CJ Pollet, Tony Mozingo and Mark Iles.

Honorary Pallbearers are Carl Voss, James Lessley, and Johnny Carrothers.
