NATCHEZ — Enough food to feed hundreds of people, free, is being served at the Natchez Convention Center today until 2 p.m.
The purpose of the meal is to bring people together from all walks of life for a time of Thanksgiving and fellowship, especially those who are lonely and in want of someone to spend the holiday with, says Karla Brown, organizer and founder of Natchez Community Thanksgiving Inc.
“We invite everyone to come in and dine with us,” Brown said. “If you must take it to-go, we kindly ask that you wait until closer to 1:30 to make sure that there is enough to feed everyone. We want people to come in and sit down and enjoy each other’s company.”
In addition to good Thanksgiving turkey, dressing an all of the fixings, there are goodie bags filled with fruit and candy decorated with personalized messages from students in area schools, so anyone who comes will not leave empty handed.
The beauty of the Natchez Community Thanksgiving is that it’s not made specific for anyone and is open to everyone, regardless of their social or economic status, Brown said.
Anyone who is lonely and has no one else to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with may find company at the community Thanksgiving.
The meal today is being served free of charge, which is made possible by community contributions. For those who want to support future meals served by the nonprofit Natchez Community Thanksgiving Inc, checks can be made payable to Natchez Community Thanksgiving Inc. — or NCT Inc. — and mailed to P.O. Box 2265, Natchez, MS, 39121. Donations are tax-deductible.
